What to look for when selecting the right Wire Rope

What to look for when selecting the right Wire Rope

lveness-LWD2025-04-25T10:15:43+09:30

When selecting a steel wire rope for your crane, winch or other application, there are a number of things that should be taken into consideration.  Some of the most important to work through are:

  • Strength requirements
  • Resistance to rotation
  • Fatigue resistance
  • Resistance to wear and abrasion
  • Resistance to crushing
  • Is corrosion going to be a problem, if so to what level

Factors such as the environment/location that you are in will play a big part in this selection process, as will the size of drums, sheaves and the number of reeves that are in the rigging arrangements

All wire ropes are not created equal, and one size does not fit all.  If you sacrifice spending some time on the front end when selecting the wire rope then you may well be sacrificing the life span of the wire rope

Over the coming weeks and months we will be providing information in our newsletter which will cover off on these topics in more detail and more.  If you would like to be kept up to date with all things wire rope then please subscribe to our newsletter by clicking HERE
